What is YMCA Financial Assistance?

At Lunenburg County YMCA, we offer opportunities to all members of the community regardless of economic circumstance. Men, women and children come to the YMCA to grow and develop their mind, body and spirit. Regular participation in YMCA membership activities  supports a balanced approach to personal growth, health and wellness.

Our Financial Assistance program serves those individuals and families who have the greatest need in our community by offering reduced rates for membership.

Who is eligible for Financial Assistance?

People whose financial circumstances make them unable, not unwilling, to pay the full fee for membership. No one is denied access based on an inability to pay.

How do I apply for Financial Assistance?

Complete this application in full, to the best of your ability. Submit your form to the front desk at the YMCA or by email to Kim_roy@ymca.ca. Processing may take up to one week, after which you will be contacted by phone to set up an interview.

If you are asked to provide supporting document, please bring them to your appointment.

How does the YMCA determine how much I can afford to pay?

The program has been developed so that each family or individual will contribute as much as they can afford. This amount cannot be determined without going through the application process.

Can I join the YMCA for free?

Everyone must pay some portion of the membership fee and the amount will vary person to person. Everyone is assessed individually based their circumstances.

If I receive YMCA Financial Assistance what is expected of me?

  • Confidentiality – all information you provide will be kept confidential. We also ask that you keep the content of our interview confidential.
  • Commitment – A YMCA membership also requires the commitment of completing payments on time. You are held responsible for the use of your membership.
  • Communication – If your financial circumstances change and/or you no longer require assistance, please notify us. This enables the YMCA to help other individuals and families.

How do I pay for my membership?

Memberships are paid monthly from a pre-authorized bank account, Visa or MasterCard. Your monthly payment will be charged on the 1st of each month.

How is Fincial Assistance funded?

YMCA Financial Assistance is funded by a combination of sources, including the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign. This way, money raised during our local campaign stays in the community.
