The Lunenburg County YMCA is dedicated to the growth of all persons in spirit, mind and body, and to their sense of responsibility to each other and the global community.
The YMCA knows that kids spend up to 44 hours each week in front of a screen – longer than the average work week. As much as 93% of kids are not getting the recommended amount of daily physical activity. Children are having less social interaction with fewer people. Kids today have a shorter life expectancy than their parents.
In 2009, the Lunenburg County YMCA started a change. In response to the wishes of youth looking for programs designed with their input, the YMCA provided an environment to develop healthy living skills by offering free opportunities for active sport and community participation.
Today we offer seven days and nights of youth programming for youth ages 12 – 18 years, both at the YMCA King Street Youth Centre at 416 King Street and at the Lunenburg County YMCA at 75 High Street. Programming is designed for youth by youth. Most importantly, all of these opportunities for youth are free. The YMCA believes that free youth programs are important because they eliminate a barrier of participation that many kids experience.
We offer a range of programming from cooking, homework help, board games, youth leader program, sports night, youth zone, volunteering in the community, and so much more.
